Welcome to our new blog Incunabula in Greek libraries

Since the summer of 2019, we have been visiting Greek libraries that hold early printed material, carefully recording their incunabula in the Material Evidence in Incunabula database on behalf of the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation, as part of the 15cBOOKTRADE project.

Since the summer of 2019, we have been visiting Greek libraries that hold early printed material, carefully recording their incunabula in the Material Evidence in Incunabula database on behalf of the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation, as part of the 15cBOOKTRADE project.

Through this blog, we will share in detail our visits to libraries across Greece beyond Athens—a need that emerged as early as our first trip to the Koventareios Library of Kozani. Our aim is to create a platform that allows us to:

– share this unique experience with a wider bibliophilic community
– highlight the treasures preserved in these libraries and tell their distinctive stories
– explore key questions surrounding these incunabula, opening pathways for further research
– publicly thank the colleagues in each library who welcomed us with such generosity and enthusiasm

We hope that this blog, as a means of presenting the work carried out by the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation, will contribute to the broader conversation on early printed books and rare materials in Greek libraries. At the same time, we hope it will help us connect with colleagues across Greece, and perhaps even lead to the discovery of incunabula that remain unknown in the existing literature.
